David Suters

With more than 30 years in the furniture design and manufacturing industry, David Suters is a timber craftsman who works in harmony with nature. Inspired by the natural beauty of Australian hardwoods, he draws his inspiration from the distinctive timbers of his trade.

David's expertise has been refined and perfected over a successful career specialising in domestic, commercial and corporate furniture sculpted from a broad selection of Australian Hardwoods and selected species.

The combination of this expertise with delicate creativity and master craftsmanship results in customised, durable, contemporary pieces nurtured from their earthy beginnings into timeless collectables.

Sourcing "that" special timber for his many commissions is both a challenge and a passion. The thrill of the search and the quality of the find all contribute to his creative process.

Salvaged woods form some of his favourite pieces. Each piece of timber has it's own personality and feel. The experienced hands of David are those of a master artisan as the character, warmth and colour is enhanced in each piece. Rich Australian hardwoods including 'Tasmanian Blackwood', 'Bluegum', 'Red Mahogany' and 'River Redgum' are his preferred mediums.

Secondary timber inlays are a popular feature of his renowned collection, which includes elegant timber bedroom suites, hall and feature tables, occasional furniture, desks, entertainment units and magnificent dining suites.

Among David's increasing number of commissions are an impressive four metre boardroom table made from locally sourced Bluegum, sophisticated boardroom wall units, luxury goods display units and custom solid timber bench tops adorning premier homes throughout metropolitan and regional Queensland and New South Wales.

David's career is built on strong commercial foundations, which began with one of the leading New South Wales furniture designers and manufacturers, Francis Furniture. David is also a member of the Victorian Woodworkers Association (VWA) and a past member of Hastings Valley Fine Art Association (HVFAA).

His creativity is his own, which has continued to evolve through artistic freedom, adored by his exclusive client base, and a continuing passion for his specialist trade. It is this creativity combined with each client's special needs and the enhancement of each carefully selected piece of timber that continues to create corporate acquisitions and family heirlooms to be admired and enjoyed for many decades to come.

To fulfill one of his lifelong ambitions, David has recently relocated both his family and 'Timbercraftsman' to the Noosa Hinterland on Sunshine Coast of South East Queensland from the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Whilst continuing to offer valued clientele the same service and craftsmanship, David Suters Timbercraftsman now offers  a diverse range of contemporary, distinctive, and imaginative timber craft and wood art on permanent exhibition exclusively at Artisans Gallery Eumundi.
